"I may be blind," Tristan, the boy from half my classes, said as he climbed into my hiding place, "But I'm not stupid."
I let out a little giggle, my voice muffled by the fabric of my nightgown, "I never said you were. How'd you find me?"
"You've been here for three months and have never been sick. I don't know how you got the nurse to think you were sick, but I didn't believe it for a second. That, plus I was walking to the bathroom and heard you climb in here."
"How could you know whether or not I got food poisoning?" I glared at him although he couldn't see it, "And what if it was somebody else that had climbed in here?"
"You couldn't have food poisoning, 'cause we ate the same food. And, I've lived here since I was five, and for the past three years, nobody has known about this place except me, until you came here.
I sighed, deciding that I didn't want to fight, "Whatever, you stupid smart-butt."
He laughed and crawled up until he was a little closer to me, "You're funny. That's why I like you."
"You're the first, then," I smirked at my dress as I stared up at him.
"What d'ya mean?" He asked, "Didn't you have friends before you came here?"
I shook my head, only realizing after a minute that he was still waiting for an answer, "No."
"What about your parents?" He asked innocently.
"They left when I was a baby," I said sourly, "My grandparents and Uncle take care of me, but they hate me. That's why I'm a seeing girl at a school meant for the blind."
"Why would the send you here though? I know there are boarding schools for people who can see. And I don't get why they'd send you away, anyway. You're funny and smart."
I blushed at the second part of his comment, and concentrated on answering his question, "I was sent to lots of schools. But then, I'd make someone angry somehow, and get kicked out. This is my last chance, or I'll have to move away to a whole new country."
"Wow..." he said, "That sounds really scary."
"It is. This is my last chance, so I really can't mess it up. That means I can't make anyone angry, or else they'll get me in trouble."
"I won't get you in trouble," he whispered, and crept closer until he was only a foot away from me, holding out his pinky finger. I wrapped my finger around his, "Pinky promise. I'll be your friend."

"Poppy, it's like, 10 PM. Shouldn't you be in bed?"
"Yes, I answered.
"But...you're Poppy. Which means that you don't care."
"Exactly," I laughed quietly, "It's not like I ever get caught."
"That's because of me and my amazing cover story making abilities," He smirked in my direction, "What are you up to this time?"
"So, I figured out what I wanna do, and I'm gonna sneak out," I whispered in his ear, "And not come back until early morning. or later."
"Sneaking out is whatever, you've done it enough. But how are you going to get back in, in the morning? They'll hear or see you! Everyone is--"
"Don't be such a worry wart. I'll figure it out. As far as they know, I felt sick and I was just heading to the bathroom," I informed him of how the story should begin.
"I don't think you should do this," he whispered, "It's dangerious. If you get caught, you'll get expelled, and even if you don't..."
"I don't need a lecture," I said when he started mumbling about safety, "I am mature enough to take care of myself in the real world."
He shook his head, "I know. But that doesn't make me stop worrying about you."
"Look," I said angrily at his worry. Out of the two of us, I'm the one more capable of taking care of myself, he just needs to learn that and leave me alone.
"I thought..." I tried to blink back some of my tears, "I thought that I could trust you. I don't need you to act like my uncle. I'm going to do this no matter what, even if you refuse to help. I just thought...as my friend that you'd help me when I need it."
I started walking away slowly, making sure he could hear my steps against the tile floors.
"Fine," he whispered, following me part of the way, "I will cover for you. Now, go. But...please, just be safe."
I smiled turning back to him and kissing his forehead. Then I strolled into the girl's bathroom.
This was going to be one amazing adventure.
